The study focuses on the business oriented functional positioning of the development and utilization of the Shanghai World Expo overall exhibition area during its transition period. Based on the concept of inheriting Expo and the principle of maximizing its social and economic benefits, Halcrow’s study identified the site area as “a fashion & commercial driven international dynamic zone with major functions of culture, exhibitions and conferences”. On fully considering the existing venue conditions, the site is divided into five theme areas with distinctive features. Encompassed by core venue functions, a humanized experiential function group has been designed inside the area and targeted investment proposals are illustrated.
